A good week

I've not been on here much this week so I thought I'd check in.
We've had a good week. We haven't had to mow our "yard" in about a month and I like the break. :)
I'm going to get something tomorrow to take care of our infestation of Japanese Beetles. They are eating everything!!
My poor roses are going to die soon if I let the beetles keep eating them.

Work has been busy and interesting. I have lots of new challenges, but with lots of new perks. I am going to get tired quickly of working 2 jobs which I have to do for another 4 weeks... crazy!

I don't have much to say.... I hope to have something more interesting to write about soon!

Good luck with the japanese beetles--there must be something you can do --does a soap solution work?? Well tech dad can empathize with you --he has been training 2 people at a time, needless to say he is tired of talking!!

I'm going to get a spray and traps. I thought my spray covered these, it's says insects, but does not specifically call out japanese beetles. So I've been spraying this stuff like crazy and they don't even work on them... I've heard the traps work well so I'm going to pick a couple up but also get a spray to get them off the plants quicker - and then if they are trapped they can't come back. That's the plan.

you might also check into grub control. grubs grow up to be pesky beetles including the jap beetles. there are certain plants they don't like, so planting them deters the beetles as well.

i've heard that too. but they work if all the neighbors get them too, but what's the likelyhood of getting the whole hood to buy traps.

We managed to go out today and I forgot to buy anything for the beetles! I did get some wedding gifts bought though... Japanese stuff tomorrow!

G's sister said their neighborhood uses traps, but I have a feeling I would be the only one around here who got them. I've heard about that Sevin, I'm going to see what I can find.

the only thing that concerns me with the sevin is it is very irritating to the skin... and i don't want hannah getting into it. so we try not to use it too much.

i think my hosta's have been doing better since i added folgers grounds to them a few weeks ago.. they will be blooming this week! we'll see how everything does with fresh starbucks grounds! but from what i can tell, the slugs seem to dislike the coffee, as i read somewhere online. i need to call grandma and see if she's used the coffee and noticed an improvement in her hostas.

So did ya get rid of them yet? We have them horrible. They are even sitting in the grass in clumps as big as my fist. Everytime I go into the backyard they fly in my hair and take 'em inside! Yuck!!the

I would try the bags if you have them that bad. I did get rid of mine. I bought Bayer brand insect killer spray for roses and flowers. It's pretty toxic but killed them all with in a few hours. I also bought the same brand concentrate that you mix with water and pour at the base of the plant and it drinks it up and the bugs stay away from them. It also helps with other diseases and is a fertilizer. I didn't see the bags until I was leaving the store and by that time I had spent enough already. But you could try the bags with the Sevin spray which is not near as toxic since you have kids.
