Long Hours

I have been neglecting my blog lately...
Work has been particularly busy getting ready for residential convention. Even though I work on mostly commercial stuff, I've been pulled in to help. So on top of my normal busy day I now have more stuff to try to squeeze in. After 2 days working 11 hours straight (not even leaving for lunch) I was out the door today at 5:03. I can start to feel the effect on my body (mom always says I get sick when I'm stressed...).
So, I just thought I would leave a note. I'm about to read more of The Magicians Nephew, and lay down on the couch with my kitty cat.

Old Music

Here is a picture and description of the oldest piano that exists, as well as a beautiful and old organ.
We thought some people of the family might like it.

Pics for the Girls

We took these with the girls in mind. One is an Egyptian cat statue and the other is a game with sticks that had Cat heads on them.

These pieces are at least 3000 years old.
They even liked Cats back then!

NYC

See some of our pictures from NY!

We had a wonderful time! Wednesday we got there, took a crazy cab ride to our hotel, and checked in. Our room was really nice and bigger than I was expecting. It was 1 block down from the library and Bryant Park and was in a quieter area. We were only a few blocks away from Time Square which we walked down to Wednesday evening. It was crazy, the lights, the people, the smells... We walked for a while and then found a little Italian place to eat something.

Thursday we got up and had a bagel at one of the many cafes near our hotel, then we were off to the MOMA (Museum of Modern Art). We spent a couple hours there - seeing artwork that was new but also seeing some that I had studied but never seen in person. My favorite new piece was a room that was done of the negative space of a library - all done in plaster. You could see where the books were, even see imprints from them as well as ink, yet the only thing missing was the books, it was really neat. My favorite old piece was by my favorite artist - Mark Rothko. Later on we had a small lunch and walked around and looked at a couple cathedrals, as well as go to the Apple store on 5th Ave. We went back to our room and changed for dinner, we made a mad 10 block dash in a suit, and dress (with high heels) to our restaurant - Club 21 and had a fantastic dinner before we saw Wicked.
Wicked was incredible! I'll tell more about that some other time.

Friday we went to the MET (Metropolitan Museum of Art) where we spent 7 hours walking through it, yet still did not see the whole thing! It was huge. It was neat to see everything from Egyptian art, armor & weapons (my personal favorite) who new armor was pretty...? we also saw a Frank Lloyd Wright room, lots of Van Goughs, Picasso, Monet, you name it - it was there. After 7 hours our feet were pretty tired - but we were told it was a 20 minute walk to the Tavern On the Green where we had dinner as a gift from one of Grant's relatives. There we had a fantastic dinner, with Duck, and Souffle... it was marvelous! Then after a cab ride back to the hotel, we were beat.

Saturday we had planned to go to the Guggenheim and the Cooper Hewitt museum, but after we went to the Cooper Hewitt (a small museum) we decided to cut the Guggenheim. We were museumed out and the building itself was under construction and seeing the building is part of the experience. Anyway, we took the extra time and walked through Central Park, with a few breaks to help our feet. We came out on 5th Ave and went into a few fun stores: Tiffany's, Gucci, Cartier, and Saks 5th Ave. It was fun to see the expensive stuff, but most of these places the salespeople were pretty snoody so we walked through, looked at a couple things, then went on our way. We went back to our hotel and got ready for another show. We didn't dress up as much for this one, we had dinner at this Italian place (not all that impressive) and then we saw Spamalot (a play about Monty Python). It was funny... not quite what we were expecting, but humorous and entertaining.

Sunday we got up, and packed our bags :(
We left our luggage at the hotel, we had until 5 to see the city before heading to the airport. We took the Subway down to Soho, and finally found shops where you could shop without feeling like a poor person. Grant bought me a dress :) and I bought a pair of shoes to go with it. Then we made our way down to where the Twin Towers were. That was hard to see, even though I didn't know anyone involved, it was overwhelming to see where it all happened. They had a lot of photos up and a timeline of 9-11. Then we went down to Battery Park where you could see the Statue of Liberty. We didn't have time to go to the statue so we found a bench and rested our feet while we celebrated 4pm - the time of our wedding 1 year prior.

We took the subway back to our hotel when we found out our flight was cancelled and we were put on the next one - 9pm... yikes, leaving at 8 was late enough. Anyway we headed over to the airport after we shoved our new purchases in our bags. After checking in and finding our gate we ate a sandwich at Chilies in the airport. That was really all they had on there menu there, anyway, that was our last meal in NY. We had a good short flight back to Atlanta (the pilot managed to shave 30-40 minutes off of our flight). We managed to get to our car in the back of the parking lot around 11:45. Getting home at 1:45am.

We loved it but are glad to be home. (so are our feet!)
