One Big Yard

Today we mowed the lawn. Sounds like no big deal huh... Well we also had to rake the whole lawn because the leaves from last fall were so thick it was causing problems. In addition to raking and mowing we bagged all of our grass this time and dumped it in the forest. The grass was so tall in parts we thought it better to remove it. So in parts I stopped every few minutes to go empty the bag. Camera man weed-eated and dug up a stump. That's 1 of 4 stumps we have, 1 down 3 to go. We spent almost the whole day in the yard. I hadn't realized how bad a yard can get in the winter. We have grass coming up in all of the spots we seeded however it's a little spotty. We will have to go in later and add more in spots.
It looks great now and my flower beds look great too because you can see them rather than a field of grass! Not next weekend but the following I plan on planting some flowers in the pots on our back deck. I left the pots out all winter and my "perennials" drowned in water most of the winter and I think I killed them. We also had a beautiful Madagascar Tree on our back deck that I thought I left out too long and killed it. I moved it to the garage knowing I had killed this tropical tree after just one light freezing, but thought I would deal with it next spring. Well the other day I saw all this new life coming out of the trunks. I was amazed! I think Spring is such an incredible season. All of these things "die" but come back with so much gusto... I already have a bud on one of my rose bushes! I know this is something we learn at a pretty young age, but I am like a child all excited, when I see a leaf come up from a flower I planted last year and it went into hibernation and looked pretty much dead.
Anyway, that's enough rambling for me.
Tomorrow... more boxes. :)

A photo shoot, A museum, A yard

What do these 3 things have in common...
Not much I just thought I'd give an update.

On Saturday we made our way to Greenville, SC for an engagement photo shoot. Both of us have older siblings that went to school there so we had been there years ago, but not recently. We had a beautiful day and shot for 2 hours on Furman's beautiful campus. After a nice meal at a little Italian restaurant downtown with the couple, we stayed in a really nice hotel at a great rate.

After going to church with the couple Sunday morning we made our way to BJ's campus (which was also beautiful) and walked through the Museum there. I had been there as a child but wanted to see it as an adult. Plus I knew I would understand even more after studying art. It really is a wonderful museum. The interior is done so well and each room is very different. The art was incredible and we enjoyed the whole experience.

Yesterday and today we've been working in our yard again. We think our neighbors really want us to mow, but instead we raked, layed soil, seeded and fertilized another area of our yard. We want more grass this year... We are pretty much done seeding for this season. There are a couple tiny spots we may do, but all major areas are done. We may mow tomorrow...

That's all folks... not too exciting.

Boxes, Boxes, and more Boxes!

About a month ago Camera Man's parents brought a trunk full of stuff from when he was in high school. These boxes have been in our garage for the last month. I think we thought it we ignored them - they would go away. Well last week we decided we needed to go through it all. It was 90% done when we went to visit Tech mom and Dad this weekend. Since they may be moving we packed our car to the rim with stuff from when I was a kid. Before we could go through those boxes we needed to finish the last 10% of Camera Man's stuff plus clear an area in the attic. Well, the attic was full of boxes of stuff I had set aside for a garage sale. I've decided that's not going to happen. So tonight I sorted through those boxes to decide what should be sold on ebay, what should be taken to GoodWill, and what should be given away to others. Camera Man finished going through his stuff tonight as well. So now tomorrow, we can finish unpacking the car and have 2 weeks to go through all of that stuff and get it cleaned up before we go to Kingsport next weekend with a UHaul to get the rest of Camera Man's stuff out of his parents house.

This sounds crazy I know... It is!

Another busy Saturday

I'm back in Blogger world - I had a very stressful week last week and my post seemed to stress me out more than I thought it should. I hope you all didn't mind my break. I'm much better now - back to myself.

I went to work to try to catch up on my workload there for 4 hours today. I only got half of what I wanted to get done, done. I figure that's 4 hours of work that will help next week though. I had a lot of meetings last week that kept me from getting my work done so it really piled up. After that me and Camera Man went back outside to seed and fertilize the other side and back of our yard. Soon after we started raking we got into this really rocky area. One of those areas in your yard that you ignore for a long time because to do it right would take a very long time.... We spent the next 4 hours digging and raking up rocks. We didn't get any seeding or fertilizing done, but grass doesn't grow on rocks so this needed to be done. Tomorrow we will finish that up and maybe get to the back too.

We also wanted to go through the million boxes of childhood stuff of Camera Man's in our garage. In the next month we are taking on quite a bit of stuff that's still at our parents houses so we wanted to get this stuff done first. Maybe tomorrow...

Anyway, that's it.

They Grow Up So Fast

One of the photographers that posts on one of the blogs Camera Man reads agreed to photograph his daughter's "wedding".

She only had a week to plan it so it's not real formal (in the living room), and... well...

This is just cute and looks like some kids had a lot of fun.

Pay It Forward

A guy I work with gave me his copy of An Inconvenient Truth only if I promised to watch it and give it to someone else with the same instruction. After watching this I see why he felt compelled to do his part in spreading this information.

I know we all may not agree on politics, but this is not political. We aren't sure who we are going to pass this copy on to, probably a friend of mine. But we are planning on buying our own copy we could pass through the family if you guys would like to borrow it.

Either way, anyone who reads this blog - please see this film. It's beautifully done, and a real eye opener.

More done, more to do

We have our lights down. :)
Flower beds are cleaned out, weeded and plants are trimmed. Camera Man aerated, seeded and fertilized half our yard (the other half will be next weekend. Plus we also buried a gutter thing from our house to the ditch that's we've needed to do since we moved in. We have one more of those to do but ran out of time and energy.
We have plenty more to do outside as the weather warms, but we feel good about what we got done this weekend.

Tired...

Me and Camera Man planted 5 trees today. We wanted to fill in the space between us and the new house plus add privacy.
My legs and arms are so sore, but I know they will be so nice. They already look great. Tomorrow we are going to take our Christmas lights down outside and put gutter guards on. Now doesn't that sound fun! No comment on the Christmas lights in March... they haven't been on... :)
I also am going to clean our flower beds out. They are full of leaves and dead flowers. I can see the new growth coming up at the bottom. I think it's so cool that plants look like they completely die in winter but as soon as spring comes, they are full of life. I hope they all come back this year. I know one won't because it died before winter came, but I"m hopefull for the rest of them. I also need to do some trimming. My butterfly bush and roses want to take over the world....

Thats all folks!
